On August 29, 2026, Vicky Gardner, founder and president of United After Ashes Foundation, Inc., traveled from Washington, D.C. to New Castle, Delaware to support another grieving mother at her inaugural event presented by Crosses Feathers Foundation.
The trip was made in a single day. The purpose was simple: show up. The gathering created room for community, movement, laughter, and connection. Dance instructor Shug traveled from Chicago to lead a line-dancing experience, and the room came alive.
For United After Ashes Foundation, this moment reflects something central to the work taking shape. Loss can change a life, but community can help people keep moving forward without asking them to leave love or memory behind.
This was not a United After Ashes Foundation event. It was a community event presented by Crosses Feathers Foundation, and UAAF attended in support. That distinction matters because the story is not about taking credit. It is about showing what community can look like when people choose to stand with one another.
